Very strong rim take from Allen

Angle-breaking move but Philon forfeits the advantage; I don't know if he needs to spin here, he should probably go into his man's body. More strength would help on this play. Still makes the right passing read.

Another example: Philon creates an advantage on Chandler but gets bumped off his line. Keeps his head up though and finds the open man; good possession in the end.

It cannot be overstated how elite Philon's handle is. It's not just flashy moves, he is constantly, relentlessly getting downhill. Totally in control. Quaintance doesn't stand a chance here.

Allen gets a lot of rebounds outside his zone. Impressive.

Amari Allen

Quaintance doesn't need to put himself in the air here, he's big enough to contest without leaping. Nice finish from Allen.

Philon has a reputation as a scorer but he's a very gifted and willing passer. This is beautiful PnR passing.

20:44
Good active hands from Philon on D, using his 6'6" wingspan to good effect

25:44
Another extremely impressive pass in traffic.

52:48
You see Philon's lack of explosiveness around the rim force him into a harder shot here than you'd prefer, but he converts anyway.
@oakcask
Labaron Philon Jr.
53:30
Good basic kick-out from Philon when he gets stopped by Chandler. For a guy with his handle he isn't inclined to over-dribble too often. Makes the right play.
@oakcask
Labaron Philon Jr.
62:24
Good example here of a legitimate size/physicality issue for Labaron. He beats his man, has a good angle, but just can't do anything with a huge help defender in between him and the rim.

Labaron Philon Jr.
65:01
Another example of great process from Philon. Gets advantage, stays in control, makes the right read, hits his shooter in the pocket.

Yet another example of great PG play. Two feet in the paint, find the open man.

Labaron Philon Jr.
66:20
Just relentless getting to the rim. Right through two defenders.

68:54
Nice hands on the steal, then strong physical move getting to the rim in transition.
@oakcask
Labaron Philon Jr.
73:51
Basic read but for a guy that's constantly driving Philon never gets caught with his head down. When someone is open he gets rid of the ball quickly.

Labaron Philon Jr.
74:13
Philon overhelps here. Not a good risk.
@oakcask
Labaron Philon Jr.
74:27
This is what I mean by functional strength. Philon is willing and able to initiate contact against bigger players to improve his angle and/or get to the line. He moves other players more than they move him.
@oakcask
Labaron Philon Jr.
80:14
Pretty poor contest here by Jayden Quaintance, but that's not really the point of this play, is it? Holy **** Labaron

So nice we had to clip it twice.

These are the possessions Philon is going to have to clean up. What does he do when he gets to the rim without a path to finish, and without an obvious pass? Would like to see him keep his dribble here and stay patient.

Labaron Philon Jr.

Love to see Amari Allen's engine here chasing the block. Impressive handle from Quaintance but needs to finish these given his FT%.

Philon with questionable decision-making again at the rim. He is so poised in PnR, I assume he will develop this. But he doesn't need the wild attempt here, he can pull it out.
